This past weekend was sunny and in the 50’s so Bobby and I took off to visit our tiny park model!  We were so excited to go back. Being in the midwest, our winters get pretty cold, so the campground where our park model is has to turn the water access off to the entire area so the pipes don’t burst.  That being said, the open season for this campground is the beginning of May through the middle of October.  Even though we didn’t have water, we went anyway… and we toughed it out!  We did that one time in December too… It’s actually fun!  We bring snacks and our space heater, a good movie and something chocolate, then we snuggle in for the night and enjoy being in out little cocoon.

This trip gave us the opportunity to bring some pretty big bulky items up, like new adirondack chairs, a bar table and stools and a great big floating pad for the water!  It’s super cool-looking and we’re hoping it’s an awesome place to play off the boat this summer.  We’ll give you a full review of our experience with it when we’ve had it out a bit.  It’s called the Big Joe Water Pad.  We found it at Sam’s Club for a great deal, so let’s hope it’s a success!

Now, you may be wondering “if you’re in your tiny park model and there’s no water, how do you take care of yourself? How do you go to the bathroom? Brush your teeth? Eat, Drink & be merry?” Well, this is truly primitive at this point, so you have to get creative and you have to be a bit brave.  For brushing teeth, it’s easy.  Just be sure you bring some water bottles and go brush your teeth in the yard.  Spit on the ground (where nobody is going to walk) and you’re ready to smile!  Eating, Drinking & Being Merry all have to become disposable.  As much as I hate using disposable items that will fill up landfills, it’s just the way it is when you’re only visiting for 24 hours.  I use baby wipes for clean ups and a lot of paper towels.  Now, the bathroom is a little more challenging.  Because all of the pipes currently have hot-pink-colored anti-freeze in them, there’s no flushing.  So, boys, you get to be true men and pee in the bushes… Literally!  LOL!!   Girls, you have to use the grocery bag method.  I’m sure you can figure out the meaning of that one, but if you have questions, feel free to drop me an email. 😉

Our trip was very successful in creating a large to do list for the season.  Of course, we came up with more dreams and goals too.  Top priority is growing grass!  LOL!!  Fall is a great time to lay grass seed in the midwest, so last year we overseeded the entire yard.  At first, it looked like a lime green powdery covering all over the yard.  Now, it’s just seed laying on the earth.  With all the rains that spring will bring, we’re hoping this will take hold, or our yard may be a bit on the muddy side this year! After all the destruction we bestowed upon the property last year, we need a recovery period to let everything grow.  We’re hoping for a warm spring with lots of sunshine to get it all going!

Some of the other projects we’re hoping to work on are; the roof over the deck,  finding a solution for multiple kids sleeping at our tiny park model during the summer, covering the awful 1990’s rose mirrors and other projects to help spruce up the interior of our place.  I REALLY don’t like the idea of painting the cupboards, so I’m on the hunt for great solutions.  Thank the Lord for Pinterest!  Truly, our tiny park model is completely livable just the way it is, so we’re being careful not to spend money on a place that we may only have for another year before we replace it.  Even though it’s a 1994 park model, it really is in good shape, but the age makes it difficult to find insurance, so we’ll keep assessing upgrades as time goes along.

Now that trip 1 for Season 2017 is “in the books”, we’ve got the bug… big time!  We are so excited about getting back to our tiny place and feeling like we’re at home again for the summer.  Pretty soon, we’ll be preparing to downsize altogether!
