Well, today, I set out to conquer some of the excess stuff in those closets. Let’s just say that our girls will be very happy to dig through the pile I’ve created. One has already called “first dibs” on raiding the pile! LOL!! As I sifted through the crevices of the closets today, I realized several things. #1. There are a lot more clothes in there than I thought. #2. Who needs more than 1 black blazer? #3. Like many of you out there, I hadn’t used a large portion of it in over a year. #4. I have some really cool stuff. #5. I am blessed. There were purses of every color, shoes of every height, a hat from 1995, and the gloves I wore to my Senior prom… And my old cheerleading warm up suit! What a collection!
The closets were rearranged and I even moved my 1/4 space out of Bobby’s closet. When I was finished, I stood back and looked at the pile; feeling really good about the progress that had been made. And then I wasn’t so proud of myself. There I was, with this huge pile of giveaways and I haden’t even scratched the surface of the progress that needs to be made. There were still drawers to sift through as well as under-the-bed boxes and a large chest. That is a lot of stuff. And it’s all just stuff.
We have come to realize that, for us, living like this is excessive. Going tiny is a journey, not just a destination, and we are preparing for it now. We wish we would have started sooner! As the Spring continues to bloom, so will that pile of goodies for the girls. Whatever they don’t want will go to Goodwill and we will be just as happy, just as warm and just as satisfied as if we had those closets filled. Our goal now is to enjoy our life. Enjoy our kids. Enjoy our business. Enjoy our Tiny Park Model. And prepare to enjoy a smaller footprint that allows us to live life to it’s fullest. So to me, the purge feels cleansing!
UPDATE ON THE PURGE – 4/4/17
Shortly after I wrote about the purge of my closet, Bobby and I opened a can of you-know-what on our office! We needed to purge that room so badly. We found old camera equipment, papers to throw out, tax information, you name it! But the room took a serious beating by our hands. Now, we are more organized and ready to get the rest of our office paperwork scanned into the computer. The updates will continue, as we purge and time goes on. In the meantime, we’re working on the Tiny Revival of our Tiny Park Model. Check out our progress here!
