The Bathroom
Our second renovation project was the bathroom. This was much more difficult and time consuming than the couch area!
The bathroom was the next section of el Coache’ to get a makeover. After staring at the cream colored walls for so long, it was clear we needed some personality in the room. So I turned to Amazon, of course. My Amazon wish list and shopping cart grew and changed and grew some more. (See the link to the shopping list here).
The decision on the wallpaper was easy. I already had 2 rolls of the paper that was never used in our home. I took the rolls of paper and dressed up the nook where the couch is. I was considering using tile in the bathroom, but then it occurred to me. Buy more of the same paper and carry the theme throughout the trailer! YES! Paper is lighter, faster, more reliable and easier to replace. So I ordered the paper and started gathering the odds and ends that I needed.
It was Saturday, February 6, 2021. My daughter brought over the Amazon package full of wallpaper, museum tack and cup hooks and I set to work.
First, I washed all the walls with rubbing alcohol & paper towels; making sure to wipe in the corners really well. (Side note: use your alcohol covered paper towel to clean your mirror. It’ll be streak-free & shiny!). While it was drying (and airing out) I got the measuring tape, a piece of wood to use as a straight edge and a piece of cardboard to protect my floor while cutting.
I worked with my dad a lot when I was a kid, so I’m pretty handy around the house. I’ve learned to measure twice and cut once. Before you begin, my suggestion would be to assess the room and figure out where you want to begin with the wallpaper. I started on the top above the window, but as I worked, it became clear I should have started on the left under the mirror so there would be a seamless transition across the wall to the shower. In the end, I covered it up with the scarf so you can’t tell where I had to piece it together.
It didn’t take too long before there was a clear difference in the feeling of the room. This project began around 2:00 p.m. and was finished around 7:00 p.m. That included hanging everything in the room also. The floor isn’t hasn’t been replaced yet, but that will be coming soon!
